Rosetta Stone Spanish
$219.00

(visit site)
|
Pros:
• highly interactive
• easy to use
|
Cons:
• no English reference
• expensive
|
Review Summary:
Rosetta stone is a software only course which uses image-audio and image-text association without any English references. Although, this is an interesting and maybe somewhat effective method to teach a language, some of you may have trouble adapting with this method because there is no reference material if you get lost. Also, this course is much more expensive than the other courses that we've reviewed - their level 1 course alone (they have 3 total) costs more than twice the amount of our number 1 ranked course - Rocket Spanish, and Rocket Spanish covers more material.

Learn Spanish Now
$69.95

(visit site)
|
Pros:
• includes a great flashcard program
• great reference/translation system
|
Cons:
• may be confusing for beginners
• lacks structure
|
Review Summary:
Learn Spanish Now is a software based Spanish course which uses the immersion approach to try to teach you Spanish. There are no actual lessons in this course, they just sort of 'throw' you in the middle of a bunch of Spanish conversations and you may find yourself overwhealmed, or even getting lost because there is no real structure. You may enjoy this course if you've already had some Spanish training and would like to experience some real world conversational examples.

Learning Spanish Like Crazy
$97.00

(visit site)
|
Pros:
• covers a large amount of material
• iPod/MP3 player compatible
|
Cons:
• no written material (unless you purchase the combo upgrade)
• no visual interactivity
|
Review Summary:
Learning Spanish Like Crazy is an audio only course that focuses on real world Latin-American Spanish. The audio is high quality, easy to understand, and covers quite a bit of material. However, being that there is no study guide or additional material to supplement the audio lessons, you may have trouble following along, or simply get bored due to lack of interactivity. This is purely a "learn by listening" course.

• focuses mainly on formal Spanish
• lacks some intermediate/advanced concepts

The Pimsleur Spanish course is an all-audio course designed to help you learn Spanish intuitively and subconsciously. This course is interactive and engaging, however, considering the expensive price and the amount of material that you actually learn, we feel that there are better Spanish courses available.

Start Spanish
$24.95

(visit site)
|
Pros:
• relatively inexpensive
|
Cons:
• no interactivity
• relatively small amount of material
|
Review Summary:
Start Spanish is a software based text course which introduces you to rules of Spanish grammar. This is a very basic course and not recommended unless you want the bare essentials of Spanish. In fact, you could probably find most of the information in Start Spanish for free out on the internet.
